Metals

Additionally to currencies, also metals are traded on the international financial markets. The 2 most familiar metals are Gold (XAU) and Silver (XAG). Generally both metals are traded against USD. Trading against EUR is offered as well, though trading against USD is more common. Same as on the FX market, also metals are traded in pairs. Xauusd is the terminology for Gold and xagusd is Silver. As an example, one ounce Gold (XAU) has a value of 1,300 USD. If you sell 1 ounce Gold (short) at a rate of 1,300 USD, you simultaneously buy 1,300 USD. When the price per ounce decreases to 1,100 USD and you buy (long) back the previously sold ounce to a cheaper price, you have a profit of 200 USD. If the price for 1 ounce increases to 1,500 USD, you lost 200 USD.
